Volkswagen has updated its compact SUV Tera in Brazil by adding the 200 TSI powertrain to its automatic Comfort and Highline trims. The model receives a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine delivering 128 horsepower and 20.4 kgfm of torque, paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission. These versions previously produced 116 horsepower with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The Comfort trim is priced at R$ 134,790, an increase of R$ 1,600, while the Highline trim costs R$ 147,190, up by R$ 1,000. Other versions in the Tera line retain the 116-horsepower 1.0-liter turbo calibration with manual transmissions. Fuel economy for the 200 TSI stands at 8.7 km/l in the city and 10.1 km/l on highways using ethanol. Running on gasoline, it achieves 12.2 km/l in urban driving and 14.4 km/l on highways.

The mechanical update enters an increasingly contested market against models such as CAOA Chery's Tiggo 5, priced between R$ 125,000 and R$ 140,000, and Tiggo 7 Sport at R$ 141,000, as well as the CAOA Changan CS55 Prime at R$ 145,000. Volkswagen initially presented the Fiat Pulse, Chevrolet Sonic, Jeep Avenger, and Renault Kardian as direct competitors.

The Tera was introduced in Brazil in 2025 and became the country's second best-selling SUV in 2026, behind only the Volkswagen T-Cross. The company's Taubate plant in Sao Paulo reached 100,000 units produced in under a year. Between January and July 2026, the vehicle became Volkswagen do Brasil's most exported model, shipping 21,404 units to 17 Latin American markets.
