Tesla Wins Slovenia Approval for Supervised FSD
Slovenia becomes the sixth EU nation to permit public road use as Tesla targets broader bloc approval.
Tesla received clearance from Slovenia on September 8, 2026, to operate its Full Self-Driving Supervised system on public roads. Tesla and Slovenia Energy and Infrastructure Minister Jernej Vrtovec confirmed the decision, making Slovenia the sixth European Union member state to grant approval.
The approval comes ahead of a regulatory vote by the EU Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles. To obtain wider approval across the 27 EU member states, Tesla needs support from at least 15 countries representing at least 65% of the total EU population. The six approving countries currently account for 9.4% of the bloc population. Elsewhere in Europe, France has authorized road testing for two FSD-equipped vehicles.
European Safety Dataset
Tesla released safety figures from European testing conducted between April and August 2026 covering 100 million kilometers, or 62 million miles. The company reported that FSD Supervised recorded a 4.1 times reduction in collisions compared to manual driving.
Vehicles using FSD logged three highway collisions and nine non-highway collisions during that testing window. Over the same period, manually driven Tesla vehicles logged 137 highway collisions and 490 non-highway collisions.
